I was lucky to get good weather for a ski tour
on Gran Paradiso (4061m) near Aosta in northeast Italy --
highest mountain whose base is completely within Italy.

on the main hiking trail for the
Vittorio Emanuele hut

west to the mountains of
Savoie in France: the Grande Casse with snowy shoulders left of
center (? and Aiguille de la Grande Sassiere ?)

Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II
(2732m)

east up the main ski route

ice cliff with the Madonna rock
beyond (square rock near center)

ski tourers at the Madonna (white statue at left end of rock platform)

ski tourers walking on crampons, descending from the Madonna

starting to ski down

those same two skiers further below enjoying pleasant corn snow gentle among
the rocks

main ski run curving southwest toward Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele

southeast from the main
hiking trail to the last of the skiing below the Rifugio to around
2350m - (a vague path connects from the hiking trail to a bridge
over the creek to the skiable snow)
